This section sets out cross-cutting obligations for Parties relating to inland waters, covering rather generic implementation requirements that are not specific to any of the other sections but rather to all of them. Most requirements come from some of the CBD programmes of work and provisions of the Ramsar Strategic Plan.
Both CBD and Ramsar Convention ask for the development of targets for implementing their respective obligations, the CBD specifically on the work programme on inland water biodiversity, but also for some of the other programmes of work, which have relations with inland waters (mountain biodiversity, Global Strategy for Plant Conservation).
The activities in this section on the implementation of inland water-related activities on sustainable use and on the implementation of inland water-related activities on invasive species relate to the respective modules on sustainable use and invasive alien species. It is recommended to take into account the provisions in those modules as well when considering the obligations presented here.
