Directly relevant obligations and commitments

  • Cooperate with other Parties, including joint programmes from the sustainable management of transboundary natural resources: UNCCD Article 11
  • Initiate implementation of the Addis Ababa Principles and Guidelines, making arrangements for international cooperation where multinational decision-making and coordination are needed, particularly in a transboundary context: CBD Decision VII/12, 2 SEE COMMENTARY 1
  • Help ensure that the Goals specified in the CITES Strategic Vision: 2008-2013 are achieved by cooperating with other Parties in managing shared wildlife resources: CITES Resolution 14.2 SEE COMMENTARY 2
  • Pursue the application of the Guidelines for integrating wetland conservation and wise use into river basin management in a cooperative way with neighbouring States, where there are shared river basins: Ramsar Resolution VII.18, 17
  • Parties to co ordinate their efforts for the protection of the migratory species specified in Appendices II and III whose range extends into their territories:Bern Convention, Article 10 (1)

Practical principle 8 of the Addis Ababa Principles and Guidelines (contained in Annex II) states that there should be arrangements for international cooperation where multinational decision-making and coordination are needed. The rationale implies that this is directed towards transboundary biodiversity resources.

CITES Resolution 14.2 and CITES Resolution 14.2 Annex: Objective 1.6 of the CITES Strategic Vision: 2008-2013 (contained in the Annex), is that Parties cooperate in managing shared wildlife resources.
