CBD Decision VI/9, 4
CBD Decision VI/9, Annex C a.iii, c.xi, c.xii & c.xiii
The targets of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation include 4 targets which relate to sustainable use: development of models with protocols for plant conservation and sustainable use based on research and practical experience (target iii); no species of wild flora is endangered by international trade(target xi); 30 per cent of plant-based products are derived from sources that are sustainably managed (target xii); and the decline of plant resources, and associated indigenous local knowledge, innovations and practices that support sustainable livelihoods, local food security and health care, halted (target xiii). In addition, CBD Decision VII/10, 8 states that targets xi, xii & xiii should be integrated into CBD’s work on sustainable use and CBD Decision VII/10, welcomes the decisions of the Conference of the Parties and Plants Committee of CITES to consider how they can contribute to the implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation, especially target xi.
