Communication, education and public awareness
This section sets out the obligations for Parties on communication, education and public awareness (CEPA) relating to inland waters, including also provisions on training.
Raising awareness is a joint concern for the biodiversity-related conventions. This section assembles a large number of provisions in this regard from the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, but also from CBD, CMS and World Heritage Convention that all grant the issue of CEPA high importance. Many African and European regional conventions are also included. Specific concerns, such as the one of CMS on Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, is often relevant for the implementation of other conventions as well, in this case in particular for Ramsar. Another example is the focus of the World Heritage Convention to keep the public informed of dangers threatening the cultural and natural heritage, which might relate to Wetlands of International Importance under Ramsar or sites of significance for migratory species, a concern for the CMS.
