Ramsar Strategic Plan 2003-2008, Operational Objective 12.3
Action 12.3.1 calls for support to the Mediterranean Wetlands Initiative. Action 12.3.2 encourages the application of the Guidance for the development of Regional Initiatives in the framework of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar Resolution VIII.30, Annex).

Ramsar Strategic Plan 2003-2008, Operational Objective 13.1
The actions under this Operational Objective call on Contracting Parties to strengthen cooperation between the Ramsar Administrative Authorities and Focal Points with those of the different multilateral environmental agreements, in particular the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, the Convention on Migratory Species and its Agreements, the World Heritage Convention and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, as well as cooperation with a range of agencies, organisations and institutions.

Ramsar Strategic Plan 2003-2008, Operational Objective 14.1
Mechanisms for sharing expertise and information include the national focal points, in particular for communication, education and public awareness and promotion of the sharing of knowledge (action 14.1.1). Action 14.1.2 recognises training as an important element of international cooperation. The Guidance for the development of regional initiatives in the framework of the Convention on Wetlands defines as the aim of regional initiatives to promote the objectives of the Convention in general and to implement the Ramsar Strategic Plan in particular, through regional and subregional cooperation on wetland-related issues of common concern.

The Guidelines for international cooperation under the Ramsar Convention address shared wetlands and river basins, shared wetland-dependent species, working with international/regional conventions and agencies, sharing of expertise and information, international assistance, sustainable harvesting and international trade in plants and animal products, and foreign investment to ensure wetland conservation and wise use.

CBD Decision VIII/30, 6:
The Rio Conventions are the CBD, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. This decision is addressing biodiversity and climate change. The projects envisaged in paragraph 6 are aimed at promoting better understanding and functioning of synergy among the conventions and agreements, in the context of addressing climate change.
