• Operational objective 1 of the programme of work for the Global Taxonomy Initiative – Assess taxonomic needs and capacities at the national, regional and global levels for the implementation of the Convention - includes the following planned activities:
o Planned acticity 1: Country-based taxonomic needs assessments
o Planned activity 2: Regional taxonomic needs assessments
o Planned activity 3: Global taxonomic needs assessments
o Planned activity 4: Public awareness and education
• Operational objective 4 – Include key taxonomic objectives within the thematic work programmes of the Convention – includes planned activities on the following programmes of work: forest biodiversity, marine and coastal biodiversity, dry and sub-humid lands biodiversity, inland waters biodiversit, agricultural biodiversity, mountain biodiversity.
• Operational objective 5 –Include key taxonomic objectives within the work on cross-cutting issues of the Convention – includes planned activities on the following cross-cutting issues: access and benefit-sharing; invasive alien species; support in implementation of Article 8(j) [knowledge, innovations and practices of indigenous and local communitites]; ecosystem approach and work on assessments including impact assessments, monitoring and indicators; and protected areas.
